About SA Hikes

SA Hikes began with a family outing to Giants Castle and a walk to Bannerman Hut. More than four decades later, time in the mountains, on the coast and in quieter wild places still shapes the way this site is built.

The Drakensberg was the starting point: close to home, endlessly varied and full of routes that reward careful preparation. From there came an appetite to explore other provinces, the Wild Coast, the savanna and neighbouring countries. Each landscape asks something different of a walker, and that variety is the real joy of hiking in Southern Africa.
